manifesto
The modern world is full of troubling
problems. Our global society is facing rapid climate change,
over-population, non-sustainable consumption of finite resources,
myriad health issues, and major pollution from all sectors.
In the USA, we can add over-dependence on fossil fuels,
disproportionate usage of global resources, a corrupt political
system, and an extremely wasteful and disconnected food system to that
list. When looking at the number and scope of the problems we
face, it is easy to become discouraged, and many people choose to
simply ignore the problems. And the simple truth is that many
people are not even aware of these problems in more than a "nightly
news" way.
At Wheels Of Change, we believe that
humankind cannot afford to ignore these problems any longer. We
realize, however, that awareness among Americans is low, and among the
aware, discouraged people are not effective agents of change.
Therefore, our purpose is threefold:
1. To increase awareness of the
problems we face through dissemination of truth. Through our
website, clinics and seminars, projects, and day-to-day interactions, we spread
facts about the world as it is and illustrate the need for action.
2. To provide knowledge of practical,
simple solutions to said problems, solutions that we all can integrate
into our daily lives.
We believe fully in the DIY (Do It Yourself) ideal and desire to bring
this original American attitude back to prominence.
3. To encourage people in their day-to-day
effort to change the world, even if it is only their little sphere of
influence in the world. We believe that taking an action for the
principle of it is enough, even if it may make no substantial actual
difference in the world. Alone, we are invisible; together, we
shout in unison and are heard; once a critical mass is reached, we
will truly bring change.
More specifically, here is what we stand
for and believe in: Critical thought; true American patriotism,
defined by commitment to the Constitution and the revolutionary
thought that brought it about; truth and transparency in politics and
foreign policy; bicycles and other forms of non-automobile
transportation; conservation of resources, both at the personal and
public level; local businesses and community-level relationships in
general; local and regional food and beyond-organic farming; renewable
energy sources; alternative building methods; non-violence; the
inter-connectedness of all things; and the list goes on. Yes,
you could call us progressive-hippie-freaks, but we don't fit into a
box that small.
The longest journey begins with a single
step. At Wheels Of Change, we've taken our first step.
Join us for the next one - let's stand up together and collectively
lead the way back to a sustainable, healthy, happy culture. |
