+ frequently asked questions

What do you actually do?  It's fairly straightforward.  We provide solid information about problems - to illustrate the need to act - and practical action/solutions, along with encouragement to act.  We believe that wholesale change is needed in the American way of life, and we are working towards that by encouraging people to think for themselves and live the examined life.

So you think you have all the answers?  Not at all.  The problems before us are so huge, so complex, that for any one person or organization to purport to have all the answers is just silly.  But we do have a broad base of contributors, each well-versed in their particular area of interest, and they are capable of providing information that, when taken together, can give us reasons to act, ways to act, and encouragement to act.  We have some answers, or partial answers.  Some is better than none - and it often seems that our culture is at a loss for any at all.

Is all the information on this site true?  We do our best to make sure that everything is factual.  If there are statistics or scientific facts within an article, we try to make sure they include citations, although they don't always.  We are not interested in misleading people.  You will find, however, a fair bit of opinion here - just a natural byproduct of idealist, change-oriented thought.  We encourage you to do more research on your own, to formulate your own opinions, to decide what you think about the world and the way we should live in it.

Can I contribute to the resource base?  Certainly!  If you are passionate and knowledgeable about a given subject or subjects, feel free to write an essay, photojournal, statistical piece, DIY how-to article, or whatever else floats your boat.  Keep in mind our basic premise at WOC:  1. We strive to spread awareness about the many huge problems facings us; 2. We strive to spread awareness of practical solutions to these problems that all of us can integrate into our daily lives, and 3. We strive to do both of these things in an encouraging, can-do manner.  We hold very high standards for grammar, spelling, factuality, and the like, so be on your A-game.  Feel free to send us an abstract before actually doing all the work if you'd like to see what we think.  Of course, we reserve the right to deny space on our site to anyone - but that has, to date, never happened.

If you don't like America, why don't you move?  Hmmm.  We actually love America.  It is our home, our birthplace, our country.  However, we find many things to be alarmed by in modern America, things that we think are not particularly American.  We feel that the writers of the Constitution are quite possibly rolling over in their graves, given the way that the American people have given their minds and country over to corporate interests.

Why isn't this a .org instead of a .net?  We wanted a .org domain name, but someone already owns that name.  There is no site at that address, but someone owns the domain.  So we opted for the next best dot suffix.
